Yeah the year has begun on a tragic note for fashion in Kisumu. It is therefore with great sadness and heaviness in my heart that I present to you Kisumu Fashion WeeK. So I think with all the fashion weeks that went on across the nation last year Swahili, Naivasha, Nairobi etc etcetera Fashion Week, Kisumu too decided they shall not be left behind.
I was not at the event, but my girl Helen brought it to my attention. DEPRESSING!!! you know the way I love my Kisumu City, now why have they gone and done this to me?

Ebu look at that banner. They sat down, they because this thing was not pulled off by one person, c'est pas possible! so they sat down and decided, we shall cut off the "H" join it with the "O" then we shall put the "i"  in the "O", how creative! lets clap for ourselves.
And lets not talk about that thing there that looks like a woman, how sad is this.

Anyway I went to their facebook page and got a mini heart attack.
The hell is this?!!!!!! and why? Even my 6 year old niece Muthoni agrees that this is a bad outfit. If a child can see it s bad? I rest my case. and I see that they decided to throw mats all over the floor, you cant call that a runway, have you noticed the girl barefeet there at the back, now please note she wore opato (bathroom slippers) to fashion week!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why is this one undressing? Even as I write this, I can feel the heaviness in my poor frail heart. I have not seen so much bad at once in one room. They should ask for the Lord's forgiveness and repent!! And as much as it hard to believe (because now I know your ass is judging as by this disaster) Kisumu is a metropolitan metrosexual city! There I said it.
Wolloooloooooo yawa I beg ma sista! Abomination! God Forbid! You can tell by the look on her face that she is thinking "whuat are these on my feet!!!!! my mouth is stuck

Anyway since my mama always said to try and find the good in everything and all things, I tried to find some good pieces in there but it was tough.
I think this has potential, its is not a killer but under the circumstances we can call this genius. Just work with me

The wedding dress (below) too has some kidogo potential, see that embroidery? obviously some woman in kisumu still loves those vitambaas my grandmother used to cover everything in the living room, including the radio, stools, newspapers, sofas, sofa arms, pot (yeah you know the pot the one of drinking water, dont pretend) And the iron box disappeared too? Yawa!
ANYWAY!!! I will not got to Kisumu soon. This has been an embarrassment. For those who want to see more of this disaster there you go.. KFW's facebook page.

COFFEE AND CRUMBS

Did I say happy new year already? well there it is. Bloging has been made easy because people are sending me fabulous material, Christine told me about Mimi G. and I had to blog the diva at once. You know the way I am a DIY freak, not that I have done something of maana of late. My sewing machine broke down and is being fixed, so am on hold; Let me just mention here that I did home science, as in a subject in school, we had those manual pedling sewing machine, (sad times)
Anyway Mimi Goodwin is like the reigning queen of DIY and since I do not want to bore you with details of how I am going to start following her, go to her page and admire or learn! http://mimigoodwin.blogspot.com/
Here is a link to what she did the whole of last year. AMAZING!!  Now get out your needle and thread and get sewing.

Since I have been lagging behind in the men's department, I will be throwing in here some male blogs I like (I think I already said that sometimes back) anyway there is this guy that I really like, my male readers, I hope you like him too, and ladies, if your man is dressed poorly here is a start, PATOUSTYLE
please note some of his style is very eccentric, but you dont have to copy everything,. be inspired.

Before I forget, I went to Gikomba before the year ended, so I will be shooting those today and kesho, so will upload those when I can.

As you can see Angelina showed out in a kitenge! Me I just went kawaida, but are we looking good or are we looking good! Now let me tell you that Angelina has lost so much weight, you need to get in touch with her if you are struggling in the weight department. Trust me you want to call her, she went on this diet that is miraculous, and you know the way there are a million diets that just don't work, well this one does and it is healthy too!! I have seen the way she has shed off that weight. Call her she will advice.

OK so for those who want to a fab kitenge like this call Esther on 070 386 7699. She is good, she is fast, and you can either bring your own fabric or you choose from her vast collection. She can come to you, of course if you live in Timbuktu she cant, but she has set up shop in town you can go there, give her a call and mention my good name, so I get some brownie point and I get something for free!

So since the Swahili Fashion Week came into town, everybody seems to be doing it, just that they are not a fashion week or weekend just a day. I dont know why they insist on calling them weeks and weekends and they are not!
I missed this one because of the location, yaani there is no way I can go that far for an event, from where I am standing Enashipai is in another country. And are you seeing that price! But I hear it was great, am scouting the net for pictures will update as they come it.

Then there is the Nairobi fashion week which apparently is coming soon but I have not seen anything of maana as yet from their facebook page, I have been there several times and I see thar they are praising the Lord over the coming of this but I have already tired of waiting. The status updates are reading like this...
FINALLY HERE COMES WHAT KENYANS HAVE BEEN DENIED FOR LONG!!!!!! JUST KEEP IT FASHION, KEEP IT HERE AND WATCH THIS SPACE.....
The Nairobi Fashion Week is a Registered trademark Registered in the Republic of Kenya under the Trade Marks Act CAP 506 of the laws of Kenya by DYNAMIC RACE MODELING AGENCY. It is theirfore illegal for any individual/persons to claim, use or purport to own The Nairobi Fashion Week as it contravenes The Trade Marks Act and the laws of Kenya. Welcome all to The Nairobi Fashion Week, We {Kenya} finally have our very own.
AHUH, sawa basi we are waiting, I don't know if we should hold our breath on this one or just wait. But the big question is: who denied us? fashion events are literally coming off Nairobi's ears

Then there is the SAFARI FASHION WEEK
Raw Energy Runway (that is a runway and a half , that should be seen by all and right after that they carry it to the national museum and lock it in a bulllet proof glass: A national treasure)
The Dress Code: Unzip your raw energy (Ngai! fafa) I have not decided wether I am going because that price can buy alot of things, why do they all have to be 3000 plus KSH! (I am accepting sponsors)

Anyway I have been over-using my brain thinking of how I can impress these posh people with some ghetto fabulousness, should I come up with that money that is. Now I cant wear a dress, jacket or any outfit  with a zip, that is just obvious. But HAIR!!! that will completely knock those buggers off their seats,  the only thing is I can't quite decide between this......

Or to just go full blown Naija!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! abeg ma sistah! Please dont try this at home.
We must continue with my friends prayer and do it without ceasing "God take zips out of your childrens hands, for they do not know what they do"
This is sad really sad.

Okay Somebody asked me about the bow I have on my head in this outfit; The scarf I got for very cheap I think it was like 20 KSH in TOI and I got some ideas from the lovely Shirley Beniang! She has amazing Tuts. Watch out for her blog and other videos.

FOOD

Because it is always good to eat healthy and because cooking is sooo much fun, really I love food, I love cooking and am actually really good ask Angelina, I will be sharing some of my favourite blogs on food. And another thing that should motivate you into the kitchen is that old "the way to a mans heart is through the stomach" you keep hearing from your mother, she is your mother she is right!! Yes dont let your housi cook all the time, it could end you in a bad place. Unaweza rudi nyumbani upate bwana ametoroka na watoto na house girl; ama you come find her in your clothes, wearing your perfume cuddling with the husband, alafu utaua mutu and end up in jail for nothing!
START COOKING!!

So please visit Wageci who is blogging about everything delicious and mouthwatering like the above dish, follow her, learn to cook, be healthy. You wont believe where she is blogging from! find her on her Facebook and her blog FOODIE IN THE DESERT!  with all the recipes. You will love her and then you will love me for that:-)

Oh I forgot there is the FAFA that is going on this weekend too, I dont know how I forgot, I am sure you all know about Fashion For Peace?

FAFA - Festival for Fashion and Arts, organises 'Fashion for Peace' which is focused on bringing together established and emerging African fashion designers from across the continent.
Company Overview
FAFA was created in 2008 by individuals from different nationalities and walks of life who came together with the belief that peace is fundamental to development and prosperity and that positive change comes when we stop focusing on the negative and encourage the inspiring and positive.

And here I was thinking Safari fashion week was expensive!!  So much fashion and somebody is saying we have been denied sijui what!! Lakini now I need a sponsor for sure! ama I just organise a mini Harambee!! And look at the number of sponsors FAFA have, sponsors za nguvu! si they sambaza me one!

Do have a lovely Week!

PS:
DreamVillage story ni ya kesho!!!
Hey dolls:-) I hope you had the loveliest weekend, now that I have greeted you in such an excellent manner, am not going post any outfit today, I only took one picture from the event and it is not worth posting, but if you all go on strike I will post it:-)

There is a lot to tell about the event and you are about to hear it in great details! I went with Julliet my main partner in things criminal! we were dressed for the occasion, Jules looked epecially lovely in her LBD and heels to boot!! The other reason I dont have more pictures as I promised is because the camera died on me mid show.

I dont think that that this event should have been  called fashion week, for those of us who know fashion week, you know it is a week long affair with designers showcasing their stuff in different locations in the same town, but okay I dont want to compare much. WHOEVER did the event planning bogus ya mwisho. Does not have a clue about fashion events. The location, fantastic, but someone had to go and drape the walls and pillars with Safaricom curtains! WHY?!!
For Kenya we started pretty much on time.

We bought our tickets at the door, but they did not give us tickets Jules can confirm that.
There was no printed program, anything where the Designers names are written to remember them with. I dont know how they missed that important detail.
I dont have anything to say about the MC as in SERIOUSLY?!!!!!!

The front row seats were also draped in some fugly fabric, but our seats my oh my, I hope there is a picture here you can get to see them, covered in african print, brilliant, something I must recommend to those who are doing weddings in the near future!!
There was this airline I keep forgetting the name, one of the sponsors, they had one of their crew members, that uniform was... let me just say not fashionable.

Then there was a ruffle ticket something something where somebody on the front row seat won, which my kenyan mind immediately thought RIGGING!! because my card was not picked (you had to drop your business card in this basket) so anyone who did not have a business card did not stand a chance; But at one point, I did not feel so bad about it, because that mama said "you win a ticket to any of our destinations!" and am thinking this winner is just cheka chekaing over here and maybe she has won a one way ticket na ataenda akwame huko Abuja;
Before this ruffle ticket thing the representative of the Airline gave some looooooong speech about the airline, Precision Airline! but I keep forgeting that name and what sticks to my head is prestige!

Have I mentioned there that Her Excellency the Tanzanian Ambassador to Kenya Ms. Batilda Burian graced us with her presence, a lovely lady and she looked very regal in her African attire!
Which reminds me, Tanzanians are very respectful, the lady representatives, did a slight curtsy while greeting her excellency! I liked that.

On the guests: the Ladies showed up and showed out, I must say most of the ladies looked stunning not all but most! (such a pity my camera died)
Am giving this report in a random order, as I remember them:-)

Have I also mentioned that one model also won an air ticket to the coming Swahili fashion week in Tanzania?! But that one I heard very clearly "return ticket"!

I have just gone to the SFW facebook page and pulled this picture, there are no pictures of the collections as yet, but go like them, they will definitely have better pictures than mine, and soon I hope.
Ebu angalia hiyo uniform ya nini Airline! yawa surely!!

Another thing that made me almost jump out of the window, the sponsors were awarded certificates!, now this is how it went, (mind you this is all happening between the shows, we are sitting tight waiting on Lulu, she was the last to present her collection) the MC and a guy calling out the names and the Ambassador, the guy calls out the name, a representative of the sponsoring company comes on stage does air kissy kissy with ambassador and gets their certificate, now you maybe wondering why they were awarding certificates in the middle of a fashion show, yeah I did too. Here below found a picture!
Picture is from SFW FB page. And does the Ambassador look lovely or does she look lovely!?!

But all in all it was a lovely show, my camera did me in and so I dont have pictures of some designers and Lulus.

YOU GUY!!!!! Patricial NAILED IT! and am not just saying this because she is my friend, I will take the time, go and take pictures for you so you know what I am talking about, seriously I dont have words to describe that collection, she made the whole going there thing even the more worthwhile!

In short which is actually in long, concidering the length of this post, with all the ups and downs, keeping in mind this is the first time ever SFW is being done here in Kenya, it was a lovely evening, a great event with great designers!!!
The after party was at SkyLux, but we chose to skip and headed to SOHO for a quick drink before heading home. I was home at 1am! Because I wanted to be fresh to write this thing, I swear that is truth right there!

Here is a list of some of the designer, not be all of them, but the ones I took their details and or remembered!
  • Patricia Lulu Mbela for POISA
  • Mow Cow
  • Annesophie Achera
  • Gabriele Mollel
  • Shenu Hooda
  • Sarah Masenga
  • Jamil Walji
  • Mohamed Bana for DALIYA DESIGNS
  • Hameed A. Hameed
  • Vaishali Morjaria
Please look out for them, they are brilliant, this is not all, but I am waiting on someone to toboa list of all designers who showcased, and I will report to you hiyo maneno immediately!

Since I am not so sure who is who I have put the pictures in order of what I photographed, I will find out what belongs to who and update accordingly, and if you are very interested in something I will make it a personal mission to find out  ENJOY!
SASA?!!! hio "enjoy" nimetoa wapi, high school shairi, really am bogus:-)

(dont forget there was more after my camera committed suicide) In no particular order...... I am numbering them incase you want to refer to an outfit.

COLLECTION #1

I really really loved this collection, great finish, great fabric, my colours, whoever wants to give me a present HINT HINT HINT!! Hintmentation!

COLLECTION #2

Do not ask me about the models or the make up, if you dont like makeup, just think like this, Picasso's work is great expensive art, this is not everyday street makeup, and I have no opinion whatsoever on it!

COLLECTION #3

I especially loved the pants and orange top, buuut? how did the designer not watch out for this sin! A mistake that most women make, really how could they miss this!!!
How CAN THIS HAPPEN!!!

COLLECTION #4

COLLECTION #5
Kuna vile outfit chosen for the middle model is not fitting her, having said that, I love love short shorts, but can someone tell me to where I should wear these, you know Nairobi men are really primitive, primitive energy like those korean people said in that airline ad; you cant go like this to Bus Station or Ambassador, in fact anywhere in CBD, no way!!!

But I hear that at Village Market all the mamas walk around like this, now I dont know if I will ever get a house in that area code so, I can walk around like this yawa!!!

COLLECTION #6
This is another one I love, which brings something to mind, today Angelina and I were talking about what most women here wear to weddings, you know the daytime, garden or kiwanja wedding, and then you find this mama has worn a shimmering cocktail dress, during the day in this nairobi heat!! why? why are you doing that, and we said, you can never go wrong with an african print in any cut, just make it a nice cut.
Here is a hint, take the hint my friend, take the hint, though if its out in the field or garden for that matter, I highly suggest wedges, you always see these women in the wedding show, dressed really well and their heels can't be seen because they are buried in the ground, si uliambiwa it's a garden wedding? why are you wearing sharp heels?

COLLECTION #7
There now dont say you did not get the MEMO!
I dont think I will ever make another post longer than this, am not done yet!! ukiboeka just go and come back..

COLLECTION #8
The leso is nolonger just a piece of fabric  with a saying, that women use as aprons in the market, or to tie a baby on your back, (that english is mbovu, but you are understanding) it can look really really hot!

Ed's Note:
Just got some pictures of Pat Mbela's collection for POISA!!! Consider this a sneak preview, and congratulate me for my grand efforts!!!
Update
ME AND JULES!!
Due to Public DEMAND!! yawa there tho! kwisa! and priz priz I know even I need eyebrow lessons! Don't' tell me, and that my bogus posture is because I was trying to accommodate Jules!
